 Substation Design
Complete design services for distribution substations up through 230 kv primary. We have years of experience in the design of both open rack outdoor substations as well as the specification and application of metal-clad switchgear type substations. In addition, we have a wide range of experience in the design and implementation of substation automation and SCADA systems using a variety of hardware and software implementations.
These projects involve detailed designs for construction, most often including multi-disciplined engineering services; the preparation of technical specifications and bidding contract documents for construction and major equipment procurement, assistance with contractor bid evaluation and award recommendations, and resident on-site work, plus other services during construction.
Utility Arc-Flash Studies
The 2007 National Electric Safety Code (NESC) contains new requirements for arc-flash hazard protection for electric utilities. Because of our industrial and utility experience, we can provide a complete hazard assessment for all high-voltage and low-voltage portions of a utility system, with and emphasis on developing a rational, easy-to-implement arc-flash safety program.
System Planning Studies
We provide complete system evaluations and planning studies for electric utilities. CVOES has broad experience in assisting utility and industrial clients with system analysis, load forecasting, the development of appropriate planning criteria, identification and evaluation of alternative system configurations, and joint planning efforts with neighboring utilities and power suppliers. The primary objective of each study is to provide long-term reliable and quality power at reasonable cost. These planning studies typically encompass other analytical studies including:

Underground and Overhead Distribution Design
Complete services for all types of distribution systems. We provide a full range of design services for distribution systems including conceptual design, preparation of complete bidding documents including all drawings, technical specifications and legal requirements, bid evaluations, services during construction and commissioning/startup assistance.
SCADA Systems
Design and integration of all types of SCADA and Substation Automation systems including WonderWare and Cimplicity-based systems. Our recent focus has been on development of SCADA and Substation Automation systems that utilize non-proprietary or widely-available communications protocols and integrate multiple Intelligent Electronic Devices (IED's) into the communications network using a variety of communications channels, including fiber, RS-485, leased line, and radio systems.
IED Configuration
 Microprocessor-based digital relays and metering provide a wealth of new capabilities, but can be challenging to configure, program, and commission. This is especially true since no two products are identical and no standards exist for configuration and programming. CVOES can provide complete configuration and programming services for all types of digital relays and metering. We have hands-on experience with a wide range of devices from many manufacturers including SEL, Basler, ABB, GE (Multilin), Cooper and Siemens. We can also assist with configuration of voltage regulator and LTC controllers.
Analytical Services
CVO Electrical Systems provides a wide variety of specialized analytical services for utilities including power flow studies, voltage drop and phase balance analysis including voltage regulator programming, capacitor bank placement and control analysis, power quality investigation, grounding studies and fault investigation and analysis.
Protective Device Coordination and Sectionalizing Studies
CVO Electrical Systems can provide expert assistance in the application and programming of new digital relays from all major relay suppliers, including Schweitzer, ABB, and General Electric. We can provide a full range of services related to protective device coordination, ranging from complete coordination and sectionalizing studies to hands-on programming and troubleshooting of micro-processor relays.
